＜日本語訳＞　　ある朝、アミックに来て、アダムが書いた「つぶやき」を読んで、とても興味をそそられました。(7月の記事です☆)　特に、アダムがゴールめがけてシュートしたのに、外れてしまったという部分です。ぼくは、高校時代、サッカーとラグビーをやっていたので、特に面白いと思ったのです。

　アダムがサッカーで盛り上がっていた話を読んで、自分もサッカーをしていた頃のことを思い出しました。ぼくはアダムのようなストライカーではなく、フルバック（守備）でした。はじめは右サイドのフルバックでしたが、すぐに、「スイーパー」（相手ゴール前の守備）に変わりました。誇りと威厳をもって、敵のボールをボンボン跳ね返していました。そして、コーナーキックはいつもぼくがやっていました。ボールをうまくカーブさせることができたからです。

　ある日、コーナーキックをすると、ボールはゴールに向かって飛んで行き、ググッと曲がり始めました。敵のゴールキーパーが、「はずせ！はずせ！」と大声で叫んでいるのが聞こえると同時に、ボールはゴールに向かって、まっすぐに入っていきました。ぼくはとっても、とってもうれしかったです。

　しかし、そのときまでに、ぼくはもう10年以上もサッカーをやっていました。
ぼくが言いたいのは、「自分が一番うまいかどうかなんて、問題じゃない」ということです。つまり、大事なのは、「自分のベストを尽くす」ということです。友達や親がどんなに一生懸命やれと言おうと、自分がやれるだけのことを精一杯やることが大切なのです。

　ほら、アダムは、5年間一生懸命サッカーに取り組んだでしょう。それで今、とてもうまくなったんですよ。だから、みなさん、自分のベストを尽くして、英語の勉強を続けましょう！

Do the best YOU can!

I came to AMIC one morning and I read what ADAM had written for Tsubuyaki. It was very interesting. Especially, the part when Adam took a shot at the goal, but missed it all together. It was especially interesting for me as when I was at High School, I played soccer and rugby.

Adam’s story of his escalades on the soccer field reminded me of my soccer days. You see, I wasn’t a striker like Adam but a full back. I started as a right back but soon moved to a `sweeper` position. I carried my broom with pride and dignity. I remember that I always took the corner kicks because I could curve the ball. One day I needed to take a corner kick. I watched as the ball flew toward the goal and started to curve in. I heard the goal keeper of the opposing team cry “Leave it! Leave it!” and watched as the ball went straight into the goal. I was so, so, happy.

But I had been playing soccer for more than 10 years.
The point that I want to make is this. It doesn’t matter if you’re not the best. The main point is that you try as best as YOU can!! Not as hard as your friends or parents tell you to play, but as best as YOU can.

Look, ADAM tried as hard as he could to play soccer for five years. Now, he’s a very good player. So everyone, keep trying hard to study English the best YOU can.
